TCKC RULES & REGULATIONS
RULES OF PLAY
1. Eligibility. A player may not compete until the entry fee has been paid and Participant Release is signed.
2. Check-in times. Players must check-in at the desk and pay court fees at least 15 minutes before play starts.
3. Line-ups. Captains must turn in line-ups no later than 9 p.m. the Monday evening prior to play. These lineups are to be e-mailed to the Director and/or the Director’s designee. Teams must play in the order presented on the line-up.
Line-ups are final at 10 minutes prior to scheduled match time. Any changes thereafter may result in either penalty or default. If a scheduled player does not show and an unscheduled player from that team is available to play a default may be avoided. The unscheduled player must play on the court that would be the default court. Play must begin promptly at the scheduled time. No additional warm-up is allowed. If the unscheduled player is playing on a court lower than she would normally be assigned, the scoring begins at 0-3 for each of the three sets played.
4. Starting times. Wednesday leagues: Play starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., and concludes at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively. Monday Night league: Play starts promptly at 7:00 p.m. and concludes at 8:30 p.m.
5. Warm-up time. Ten (10) minutes of warm-up is permitted on Wednesdays, and Ten (10) minutes of warm-up permitted on Monday evening. Play must start promptly after the warm-up period.
6. Default rule. One game penalty per 5 minutes of default time. For round robin play, penalty is applied after score is calculated and divided in half. Default time starts at 9:10 AM; 11:10 AM; and 7:10 PM, for each division. Complete defaults at 9:30 AM; 11:30 AM; and 7:30 PM.
If a 2 court default situation occurs, the defaulting captain shall have the option to move up the lower court player to the higher court to avoid 1 default (the lower court defaults). The captain may elect not to exercise this option. The League Director must be notified and exchange of players must occur no later than 10 minutes after the hour. If there is a one court default, it is the director’s discretion to position remaining teams, if necessary.
A complete court default shall result in the defaulting player paying the entire court cost. The director has discretion to overturn this based on extenuating circumstances.
7. Arrival time. Time of arrival is recorded when players walk on to the court, timed from the clock closest to court of play. No warm-up permitted for late arrival.
8. Continuous play. Play shall be continuous and shall never be suspended for the purpose of enabling a player to recover her strength, breath, or physical condition. In the case of accidental injury, a one-time three minute time-out is allowed. A player will be allowed an “emergency” bathroom break after any game.
9. Changing court ends. Players will change court ends after sets.
10. Substitution rules
a. Substitutes must first be selected from their own team.
b. If substitute comes from other than their own team, a 3 game penalty will be applied to the final match score.
c. If substitute is playing on a lower court than she would normally be assigned, the scoring begins at 0-3 for each set played.
11. Rostering. After teams are set, all rostering decisions shall be made by the appropriate Division Captain and the League Director.
SCORING
1. Score sheets. Score sheets must be signed by a member of each team and turned in at the end of match into the “TCKC“ box, or club desk. Score sheets must have full name of participants.
2. Score dispute. If there is a score dispute, go back to the last score on which there was agreement and resume play from that point. If no agreement can be reached, it should be settled by the spin of a racquet. Score disputes must be settled by the players involved in the match. The TCKC Executive Committee will not resolve score disputes.
3. Number of sets. Each match shall be three (3) sets in length. Seven point tie-breaker will be played at 5-5.
4. Incomplete set. If it is not possible to finish the 3rd set prior to the completion of time, the players must abide by the clock. The score will be recorded as total games won. Play must stop at the end of two hours (1 1/2 hours on Monday evening), regardless of game score.
5. Scoring format.
a. Partner play. Play three (3) sets. The score will be recorded as total games won. One bonus point will be given for winning 2 out of the 3 sets. No bonus point is awarded if a team does not win 2 complete sets.
b. Round robin play. To score a round robin match the Director will total up the number of games won by each player and divide by 2.
6. In the event of injury during Partner Play. The team that sustains the injury retains the points won up to time of injury. The other team receives the maximum points available.
Example: Injury occurred in set 3 to Team 2 with the score 2-1 for Team 2.
Set 1 Set 2 Set 3 Final Score
Team 1 6 4 1 (6) 16 + 1 = 17
Team 2 5 6 2 13
7. In the event of injury during Round Robin Match. The injured player receives the points won prior to injury. The other three participants receive points depending on when the injury occurred. The set in which the injury occurs stands as played. For example, if the score is 3-2 when the injury occurs, then those points are given to the appropriate players. The ruling for subsequent sets is: If injury occurs in the first set, then each remaining player is awarded 11 for the remaining sets and injured player is awarded 0. If injury occurs in the second set, then each remaining player is awarded 6 for the remaining set and injured player is awarded 0.
8. In the event of a NO SHOW in Round Robin Match.
The maximum number of points available are awarded the participants present as shown below:
Example:
Set 1 Set 2 Set 3 Final Score
Player 1 6 6 5 17
Player 2 6 5 6 17
Player 3 5 6 6 17
Player 4 5 5 5 15 (no points awarded)
Player 4 is the NO SHOW player. Each player is awarded the maximum number of points when playing against Player 4 and when they are playing with Player 4, they are awarded the maximum number of points available in a loss.
The above example assumes the order of play for the Round Robin as follows: Round 1 – 1&2 vs 3&4; Round 2 – 1&3 vs 2&4; and, Round 3 – 2&3 vs 1&4.
9. In the event of a NO SHOW in Partner Play. The maximum number of points are awarded to the team available to play – or 19 points.
10. In the event a player leaves the match before completion.
If a player leaves the court prior to completing 2 hours of play (1 1/2 hours for Monday evening) or 3 sets, a default would be awarded to the remaining team. This does not apply to injury.
11. Cell Phones and pagers should be turned OFF during play.
12. Playoffs. No player may play more than 1 court lower than their draw position without approval of the TCKC director, assistant director or division head.
